I’ve been on the search for some realllly good authentic Mexican comida (food). I think…I just hit gold..in Menasha! Crazy Donkey Burrito in Menasha hits the spot like no other. I can’t even finish typing this up without reaching for my phone to make plans to visit again! That’s the truth. I had the most wonderful experience there and it definitely makes me even more excited to blog this story and share with all of you food fanatics. Let’s dive right in! 

Crazy Donkey Burrito has been in business for a little over a year and a half now. They will be hitting their two-year mark in December of 2020. When I say this is a small family business, it really is small. I spoke to cashier also customer service rep and also hostess Andrea, who is the daughter of owners, Mario and Carmen; who all run the shop together. That’s it! Just the 3 of them making this business exactly what it is; AMAZING! Originally from Texas, they sought out to bring the good ole authentic Mexican vibe to the small town of Menasha! I already can’t thank them enough. 🙂

Crazy Donkey Burrito is currently partnered up with EatStreet for easy order and delivery service! Keep in mind when ordering, they have two different menus. One is the Crazy Donkey Burrito menu which offers an array of authentic Mexican dishes and the other one is called the Crazy Burger Menu which has the delectable varieties of their most popular fusion burritos. Andrea tells us that they use fresh meat every day and her dad Mario, makes the patties by hand every morning (homemade and fresh)! They strive to use the freshest ingredients always, so you get the best taste in the valley!

Let’s start off by talking about the Chorizo Burger. This fine piece of art has the perfect combination of fresh beef and fresh chorizo to bring you just a hint of chorizo smokiness in a burger. Inside you’ll find fresh lettuce to start your base, a couple strips of bacon, a chorizo beef patty as your main attraction, topped off with pickles, some crema and grilled onions. This is paired with a salsa de rojo and french fries on the side. There’s so much flavor in this burger, it’ll send you straight back to Summer vibes! Every bite of this burger is so much YAAAS! #sorrynotsorry

The next “must have” item on the menu are these OH-SO-GOOD and very trendy tacos! The Birria Tacos! I mean, how can I NOT try and review these!? So, if you don’t know me by now, let me explain… I’m originally from the West Coast (California) and I LOVE MEXICAN FOOD! I recently moved to Appleton, WI in February of 2020 and as I was leaving the West Coast, Birria Tacos were quickly becoming the biggest trend! It’s slowly making its way to the Mid-West and I’m soooooo glad, I found it here with Crazy Donkey Burrito! These tacos are perfect! 

Birria is a traditional Mexican dish, originally made with goat meat, but can also be made with beef, veal, lamb or pork. It can be served as a stew or as a taco filling. I believe the birria that is in these tacos were pork. With an order of Birria Tacos, you get 4 tacos that are stuffed with the birria itself, monterey jack cheese and topped with cilantro and red onions. The tortillas are first grilled with red oil from the meat until it’s crispy which I absolutely love! This gastronomic specialty is served with a small bowl of soup traditionally referred to as “consommé” or pork soup to dip the tacos into. This order also comes with two sauces on the side; salsa de rojo and salsa de verde. I hate to pick favorites but if I had to choose, the salsa de verde is an ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVE! It’s handmade and perfectly paired with these and any other taco!

 

I ordered these meals along with some imported beers to pair. It was the perfect touch to the authenticity of this meal. Take it from me, beer is always a plus. 😉 Time for you to put this little restaurant next on your list for places to try in the Fox Valley. You will not be disappointed. Both Andrea and Mario were fantastic to chat with and super friendly. You can’t go wrong with good food and great service!

At this time, (COVID-19), indoor dining is unavailable. There are 3-4 self seating outdoor tables  with menus. When arriving, you can ring the bell and order from the window. Andrea, Mario and Carmen are all masked for your protection along with the glass screen protection. Crazy Donkey Burrito is currently renovating the indoor facility so that it will be COVID-friendly and COVID-safe.

The newly remodeled COVID-safe indoor ordering and dinning is set to open at the beginning of October 2020. 

Okay now I’ve gotta stop bragging about this place because I want to leave some mystery for you. I will expand on this note though; I asked Andrea what their number one selling items were and she stated, “The Spicy Pork (Al Pastor) tacos that come with bacon and pineapple, and the Street Burrito.” I have yet to try those, but you know what I’m coming for next time! 

A HUGE shout out to Crazy Donkey Burrito for allowing us to come interview them and letting us try their mouth-watering food! We can’t wait to go back for more!
