Community Spotlight: Rodney’s Cafe in Oshkosh

Community Spotlight: Rodney’s Cafe in Oshkosh

Like many in the Oshkosh community, I was affected by the pandemic. It’s the reason why my finance and I moved to Oshkosh in the first place. I know that others affected by the pandemic have not been as lucky, and I’m proud to help out however I can. This month,...

Exploring Lao Culture with Basil Café

On a cold Saturday night in February, I ventured out to get some takeout from one of my favorite dine in restaurants in Appleton. Now, the aesthetics of a trip to Basil Café is definitely one of my favorite parts. It is like an international night out without even...

WeatherVane, What’s Not to Like?

WeatherVane, what’s not to like? The Fox Cities really has a variety of places you can get delicious brunch. Recently I went to Weathervane in downtown Menasha. Growing up in Menasha, I never really took the time to explore my city until a few years ago. I honestly...

I Knead to Tell you About Thunderbird Bakery in Oshkosh

I Knead to Tell you About Thunderbird Bakery in Oshkosh

Since relocating to Oshkosh, my fiance and I have done a good job of finding our new go-to's for things like groceries, pizza, burgers, etc. However, we had yet to find a good bakery in town. That is until we stumbled upon Thunderbird Bakery in Oshkosh. I knew about...

Mac N Cheese Bites at The Shop Bar and Grille

Half Restaurant, Fully Delicious

“Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails (or Johnny Cash, if you prefer) runs through my head as I sit down to write this blog post. The line “I hurt myself today” sticks out in particular. Because, I did in fact, hurt myself when I realized how long I’ve neglected to check out The Shop Bar and Grill and all of their delicious offerings. That may sound a tad dramatic, but I take food pretty dang seriously.

The Shop is owned by Tyler Reilly, who also owns the adjoining Extreme Customs. The Shop was founded when one of Tyler’s partners, Chris Mitchell, made BBQ for a few employee lunches. His cooking was a hit, and Tyler suggested the two open a restaurant and the rest is history. Since they already owned the Extreme Customs building, they decided to repurpose part of the space into a restaurant, and have plans to expand the space in the future.

The bar is a nice size with numerous offerings. The decor is casual and leans into the “car shop” theme. It is worth noting that the restaurant itself is located upstairs. They also have weekly specials, which you can check out here. While it may seem unassuming, the flavors offered within aren’t ones you’re going to want to miss.

We started off with the Mac and Cheese bites, which was definitely the right choice. As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, I’m a bit of a ranch snob and I’m happy to share The Shop’s ranch gets a big thumbs up from me.

The appetizers and friendly service set an excellent tone for the meal, and the entrees shifted the experience into second gear. We got the “cool” version of the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, which comes with lettuce and creamy cilantro lime ranch. The chicken was high quality and juicy. The Shop’s Nashville hot sauce was flavorful and had some nice heat. Overall it was an excellent sandwich and definitely something I plan to eat again.

Smoked Wings at The Shop Bar and Grille

Lastly: the wings. I’m just going to keep it real, the wings were top notch. The Shop won the Appleton Harley-Davidson’s Wing Ding in 2020, one bit will tell you why! They’re smoked which adds a dimension of flavor I didn’t realize other wings were lacking but I’m not sure I can ever go back. They also have a wonderful crispiness to them that pair so well with their juiciness. I went with the Spicy BBQ and Parmesan Garlic, both of which were delicious in their own right. Paired with the house ranch..chef’s kiss!

Needless to say, I will be returning to The Shop. The amazing food combined with the friendly service and atmosphere is a slam dunk (I’m out of car puns). “If I could start again”, I’d find myself at The Shop a lot sooner.
