Summer on the South Side at Ardy & Ed’s

Summer on the South Side at Ardy & Ed’s

I’ve lived in Oshkosh for almost a year now. I moved in the middle of a summer filled with quarantines, masks, and take-out. While the summer of 2020 was technically my first summer in Oshkosh, I don’t feel like I got the true experience. I used to live in an...

Do Not Attempt to Dodge this Caribbean Taste

Do Not Attempt to Dodge this Caribbean Taste

Tuesday. What is there to do on a Tuesday? Hardly anything, ever, really. Tuesday falls too early in the week and yet is so far removed from the weekend. Sometimes it is just another Monday masquerading as a Tuesday. 313 Dodge might just be what you are looking for....

Wisconsin Staples at Gabe’s Wisconsin Kitchen and Tavern

Wisconsin Staples at Gabe’s Wisconsin Kitchen and Tavern

As I’m getting used to living in Wisconsin, I’m discovering some of the Wisconsin staples when it comes to food and spirits. I knew about Spotted Cow and cheese curds before I moved to Wisconsin, but that was about it. Fortunately, Gabe’s Wisconsin Kitchen and Tavern...

Oshkosh Food Co-Op Officially Open for Business

Oshkosh Food Co-Op Officially Open for Business

Did you know Oshkosh is considered a desert? Well, not the desert you’re thinking of with sand and hot temperatures. It’s considered a food desert by the USDA, and the residents of Oshkosh wanted to change that. As of July 22nd, 2021, the Oshkosh Food Co-Op (OFC) is...

A Wagner Market Picnic

A Wagner Market Picnic

Enter any big box store and you can tell that it's the beginning of the end of summer. When the pots, soil and trowels are replaced by notebooks, pencils, and backpacks it's a sign that summer must be savored before it's gone. One thing on my to-do list this summer...

lunch box in downtown Oshkosh

I’ll be honest, I’m not much of a lunch person. Breakfast is my favorite meal, and if I need to eat something during the lunch hour, I’ll opt for a smoothie or something lighter. One place I wanted to try when I started writing for Nosh was Lunch Box in Oshkosh. After they were closed temporarily in the spring, I was so excited to see the Lunch Box opening again for an affordable option for lunch. Read about my experience at Lunch Box in Oshkosh.

About Lunch Box

Lunch Box opened in downtown Oshkosh in May 2017 in the space that was previously occupied by Blimpie Subs. It’s a straightforward concept: Lunch Box offers different options like sandwiches, salads, smoothies and more during lunch. The owner, Clark Muller, is a veteran in the food industry, where his first job was a dishwasher at the Roxy Supper Club. It’s also aptly named because they are only open during lunch hours.

The Lunch Boxes

Before I reviewed the food at Lunch Box, I had to go inside to look at all the lunch boxes. Muller has acquired quite the collection of lunch boxes. For anyone that carries/previously carried a lunchbox, you need to see this collection. The collection ranges from Barney to Quick Draw McGraw to Garfield. They have quite a variety of Peanuts comic lunch boxes. I need to go back to fully look at their massive lunch box collection.

Pesto Melt with Bacon and Mixed Berry Smoothie from Lunch Box in Oshkosh

What I Ordered

I didn’t have enough time to eat inside, so I opted to get carry-out during my lunch break. I got the pesto melt with bacon and a mixed berry smoothie with acai. The pesto melt was delicious, perfectly toasted and had a good balance of all the fixings. They have a variety of sides to pair with your sandwich, which I opted for their potato chips. If you get anything from Lunch Box, make sure to get their chips. I don’t like pickles, so not getting a pickle for my side was very much appreciated.

For the smoothie, it was quite refreshing on a hot, humid day. They offer other add-ins for smoothies like spirulina, wheatgrass, protein, or multivitamin. Next time I order from them, I plan to try the Nutella smoothie. You can make your smoothie dairy-free, which I chose to do.

How to Order

You can order two ways: online for pickup or in-person. If you want to order online, you can order directly from their website. You can also order in-person and wait for your order inside. They have a lovely patio area outside if you want to eat outside at Lunch Box.

Final Thoughts

I’m planning to add Lunch Box to my list of recommendations for places to eat in Oshkosh. They offer affordable lunches that do not waver in taste or value. As mentioned above, I’m not much of a lunch person, but it was a satisfying meal that I would order again if I needed a bigger lunch in the future. While I didn’t interact as much with the staff because I ordered carry-out, they were nice and responsive while handling the lunch time rush. They are located in a convenient spot to easily grab lunch and pop back to your office or home without stressing about parking. I’m excited to try other items on the menu, especially when the weather [eventually] gets cooler and it’ll be prime time for warm sandwiches and soups.
