On a cold Saturday night in February, I ventured out to get some takeout from one of my favorite dine in restaurants in Appleton. Now, the aesthetics of a trip to Basil Café is definitely one of my favorite parts. It is like an international night out without even...

One of the first things I did when I moved to Oshkosh was visit the Oshkosh Farmers Market. While exploring the farmers market, I discovered New Moon Cafe, a local coffee shop in Oshkosh.
New Moon Cafe was started by co-founders and brothers Aaron and Jason. The building itself is rumored to be haunted! They roast their own coffee for the cafe twice a week. In addition to hand-crafted drinks, they also offer options for food, bakery items, craft beers and more. They try to source everything from Wisconsin to help local businesses and support independent shops.

New Moon offers hand-crafted beverages like hot chocolate or lattes, or if you prefer regular coffee, they offer that too. One of my favorite drinks is the Headless Horseman Latte. The name itself made me want to get it; I love October and all the spooky aesthetic that goes with it! The latte has pumpkin spice and white chocolate, which tasted amazing and I never thought about that flavor combination before. I also like their iced lattes during the summer. As mentioned above, they roast their own coffee in-house, ranging from light roast to dark roast. You can even purchase whole bean coffee or pre-ground coffee to enjoy New Moon Cafe at home!
I recently ordered a breakfast bagel sandwich with egg and cheese. Not the fanciest thing on the menu but it was delicious. They have options for breakfast and lunch, and breakfast is served late in case you want brunch, or if you’re like me, are always open to having breakfast food any time of the day. If you are vegetarian or vegan, don’t fret: they clearly mark on their menu what options are vegetarian/vegan friendly! There is also a daily sandwich special for $8.25 that includes a cup of soup.

While seating is currently closed inside, the space looks so inviting. They offer gallery space on their walls for local artists, and there’s a large collection of indoor plants. There’s also wi-fi in case you choose to work from New Moon. New Moon also hosts live events like open mic nights, live bands and poetry readings. When the time comes that they open their seating again, I know I will be hanging out more at New Moon Cafe.
