Summer on the South Side at Ardy & Ed’s

Summer on the South Side at Ardy & Ed’s

I’ve lived in Oshkosh for almost a year now. I moved in the middle of a summer filled with quarantines, masks, and take-out. While the summer of 2020 was technically my first summer in Oshkosh, I don’t feel like I got the true experience. I used to live in an...

Do Not Attempt to Dodge this Caribbean Taste

Tuesday. What is there to do on a Tuesday? Hardly anything, ever, really. Tuesday falls too early in the week and yet is so far removed from the weekend. Sometimes it is just another Monday masquerading as a Tuesday. 313 Dodge might just be what you are looking for....

Wisconsin Staples at Gabe’s Wisconsin Kitchen and Tavern

Wisconsin Staples at Gabe’s Wisconsin Kitchen and Tavern

As I’m getting used to living in Wisconsin, I’m discovering some of the Wisconsin staples when it comes to food and spirits. I knew about Spotted Cow and cheese curds before I moved to Wisconsin, but that was about it. Fortunately, Gabe’s Wisconsin Kitchen and Tavern...

Oshkosh Food Co-Op Officially Open for Business

Oshkosh Food Co-Op Officially Open for Business

Did you know Oshkosh is considered a desert? Well, not the desert you’re thinking of with sand and hot temperatures. It’s considered a food desert by the USDA, and the residents of Oshkosh wanted to change that. As of July 22nd, 2021, the Oshkosh Food Co-Op (OFC) is...

A Wagner Market Picnic

A Wagner Market Picnic

Enter any big box store and you can tell that it's the beginning of the end of summer. When the pots, soil and trowels are replaced by notebooks, pencils, and backpacks it's a sign that summer must be savored before it's gone. One thing on my to-do list this summer...

Nosh Fox Valley’s Holiday Gift Guide 2020

The best part of running Nosh Fox Valley is the connections with the restaurants and local businesses in our community while enjoying the creativity and passion they have for the services and products they have created for our community. Something that we hope to continue sharing with you well into 2021.

This year, bloggers Jenn, Robin and myself have written a guide featuring products that we all agreed that you our readers will love while continuing to support and show love to the local businesses which have been featured, many of which we have built relationships with the past few months.

Without further ado, here is this year’s list of local favorites that we think will make excellent gifts for the favorite food lover in your life. Hey! Don’t forget to treat yourself.

Xe 54: a Wine & Cocktail Lounge

We definitely need to get creative this Christmas season and XE 54 has come up with some fun and creative new options. Yes, a gift card or a bottle of wine would be a perfect purchase here, but how about a private wine tasting with some of your closest friends or family?

XE has upped the ante and is offering in person as well as Zoom wine tastings. If you want to venture out in person you get a private event room to yourself with five or more of your closest friends with their in house wine sommelier.  You get the chance to try four on premises wines (wines only sold to restaurants and bars) along with some delicious chocolate and get some insight and background of where the wines are from. They do a great job of making the tastings unpretentious and just plain fun. They are also hosting pubic wine tastings for things like port wine and bubbly throughout the month if that is more your style.

Xe also makes some pretty fabulous craft cocktails and charcuterie if you want to stop by for a drink and snack while shopping.

Oaks Candy

Oaks Candy in Oshkosh is still a staple of Oshkosh, even 100+ years later. If you need a present for a chocolate lover in your life, Oaks Candy is your go-to. Some suggestions for food-related gifts you can buy from Oaks Candy include: hot chocolate bombs (pictured), Christmas candy, chocolate covered coffee beans, roasted nuts, and clusters. They also offer options to build your own boxes of chocolate, ranging from 1 pound to 5 pounds. Oaks is encouraging customers to call ahead for orders and allowing curbside pick-up to limit the amount of customers [5-person limit] in the store.

The Garden

If you are looking to wow your guests with something new and completely down the foodie path please check out The Garden. I have been ordering from this local Neenah establishment for months and they never disappoint. Yes, they sell produce, yes they garden, but they are so much more!

The Garden has put together an eclectic mix of some the finest and most amazing products that you can get in Wisconsin. Hello, chanterelles, limequats, and fresh yuzu, definitely not anything you could find in a grocery store. They offer everything from meats, cheese, jams, hot sauce,  to holiday gift packages. The Garden also does FREE home delivery once a week which makes ordering perfect.

I have even sent some gift packages to my kiddos teachers for an unexpected surprise during this crazy time and it was a definite hit.  This is one place I could easily order one of everything. Their list of goodies is ever expanding and keeps me on my must try toes.

Barrel 41 Brewing Co.

Let’s talk about seasonal flavors…  I love a good beverage that instills some form of nostalgia. Barrel 41 is doing a pretty darn good job of wrapping up the holidays in one sip. You can try in house or get a 4 pack to get most of their beers to go.

They are offering flavors like Cinnamon Roll Crunch, Cookie Dough Spoon, and Mintally Prepare For 2021 for the holidays right now and I want every single one in my stocking.  You will be a definite Rockstar at your holiday event if you pick up one of these,  one of a kind beverage with seasonal flavors..

Also, if you are going to stop in for presents, make sure you taste test a taco or two! This cute little brewery has a secret twist of being a pretty amazing tacoria. You can read more about it on a post Alicia wrote here.

Barrel 41 is also hosting a festive social distancing event on December 19th that includes everything from Santa & Mrs. Claus handing out goodies, to ugly Christmas sweaters, to the release of their new Rum Barrel-Aged Old Ale. Fun times for all ages!

How fun are these ads they recently shot? How can you not want to buy beer from people that obviously know how to have fun!

Spent

While you are are Barrel 41 Brewing Co make sure you grab a bag of Spent, crackers. They will pair well with the charcutrie boards we all know we will be creating this holiday. Not only are they delicous but they also are created from ingredients that are normally wasted.

From David the creator “Spent grain is a major byproduct of brewing beer. It’s also a highly nutritious and delicious ingredient. We made it our mission to develop a recipe using the spent grain from Barrel 41 Brewery. After many trials, we came up with a gourmet spent grain cracker that we loved. These crackers are perfect for your holiday charcuterie board, midday snacking, or breakfast on-the-go. We now offer Cranberry Walnut, Rosemary Apricot, and Pumpkin Spice varieties. New flavors coming soon! Order at fouronefood.com/spent or stop by Barrel 41 Brewery in Neenah. “

Green Gecko Grocer & Deli

After a hiatus, Green Gecko returned to downtown Appleton during this quarentine. If you have never visited Greek Gecko’s owners Bob and Meg are known for Bob’s amazing creations especially his charcuterie boards and Meg’s bakery.

When I visited with Bob last week, I asked it what he would suggest for gifts and he shared with me it was hard as the menus and offering change and are made in house. My suggestion, grab a gift card as I personally can attest, whoever you gift a gift card to will love whatever they chose.

Green Gecko offers the best charcuterie for sale by the pound. These would make great gifts for anyone on your list, don’t forget to grab a bottle of wine or some beer. Green Gecko has an amazing wine selection and  stocks many local favorites, including beers from McFelshman’s.
