Libations at The Lanes

Libations at The Lanes

The Howard is a historic and elegant event space located in the heart of Oshkosh. The building, built in 1927, hosts private and community events. On Thursday and Friday evenings, the basement of the venue opens up to the public for bowling, craft beverages, and...

Stick with Sticky Fingers

Stick with Sticky Fingers

As a baker myself, I make a point to try all the local bakeries. I heard from several people that a new bakery was opening in Kaukauna, and as soon as they posted their menu, I couldn’t wait to try it. Right in the heart of downtown Kaukauna, Sticky Fingers opened in...

Do Not Attempt to Dodge this Caribbean Taste

Do Not Attempt to Dodge this Caribbean Taste

Tuesday. What is there to do on a Tuesday? Hardly anything, ever, really. Tuesday falls too early in the week and yet is so far removed from the weekend. Sometimes it is just another Monday masquerading as a Tuesday. 313 Dodge might just be what you are looking for....

Wisconsin Staples at Gabe’s Wisconsin Kitchen and Tavern

Wisconsin Staples at Gabe’s Wisconsin Kitchen and Tavern

As I’m getting used to living in Wisconsin, I’m discovering some of the Wisconsin staples when it comes to food and spirits. I knew about Spotted Cow and cheese curds before I moved to Wisconsin, but that was about it. Fortunately, Gabe’s Wisconsin Kitchen and Tavern...

Bushels of Fun at Bauer’s Apple Shed

Bushels of Fun at Bauer’s Apple Shed

As soon as the leaves begin to change, even ever so slightly, so does my weekly menu. When the shades of green turn to red and orange, my refrigerator, once full of peaches, quickly becomes home to all things apple. Taking a trip to a local apple orchard is my...

Faris Popcorn is Poppin’

Faris Popcorn is Poppin’

When I previously lived in Illinois, I became familiar with the popcorn chain “Garrett Popcorn.” One of my favorites mixes was their Garrett Mix, their world famous cheddar and caramel corn mix. When I moved to Wisconsin, I wasn’t sure if I would find a popcorn...

Ruby Owl Tap Room in Oshkosh

Do you have a restaurant that you normally order food from whenever you’re craving take-out but might not know exactly what you want? That one place where no matter what you order from them it’s guaranteed to be good. Since moving to Oshkosh, I’ve not only found my go-to for pizza, but I’ve now found another new restaurant to call my favorite: Ruby Owl. Ruby Owl Tap Room in Oshkosh is a hoot for everyone, no matter your diet.

About Ruby Owl

Located in Downtown Oshkosh, Ruby Owl Tap Room offers 30 craft beers on tap from a variety of craft breweries in Wisconsin and across the country. In addition, they offer an interesting menu of made-from-scratch casual food. Whether you’re a meat-eater, vegetarian, or gluten-free, they will have something for you to snack on while enjoying their selection of craft beer.

As mentioned above, there are at least 30 craft beers that you can choose from. If you want to take beer home, you can order crowlers (32 oz.) to take home with you and split with someone. Whenever my fiance and I order from Ruby Owl, we also choose to get a crowler to split. We’ve purchased the Green 19 (pictured) from Titletown Brewing Company and, a Wisconsin must, New Glarus Spotted Cow. If craft beer isn’t your thing, they also offer a couple of options for wine and hard seltzers; they also sell bottles of wine.

Normally when you think of bar food you think of sides. Ruby Owl has a wonderful array of sides to choose from, whether as an appetizer to share or on the side with your main meal. When my fiance and I ordered from Ruby Owl for the first time, we accidentally ordered the sweet potato waffle fries, thinking that they were regular waffle fries. Thankfully it was a happy accident because they were delicious! I also ordered their avocado fries for the first time and they were amazing; I will be ordering them again.

My absolute favorite from Ruby Owl is their cheese curds. We’ve only gotten take out from them so far and haven’t eaten at their restaurant yet, but their cheese curds travel very well. They’re fried to perfection and taste good with or without the ranch they provide with the cheese curds. My parents came to visit a few weeks ago and I told them to hold out for these cheese curds, and they said it was worth the hype. When I think of Wisconsin cheese curds, I think of the cheese curds from Ruby Owl.

Main Dishes

Ruby Owl knows how to make a good burger. I’ve ordered their classic burger and their bacon cheeseburger before. My fiance loves their BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger and says it’s one of the best BBQ burgers he’s ever had. This definitely isn’t a health option to enjoy, however if you’re looking for a good BBQ Burger to treat-yo-self with, look at Ruby Owl. I’ve also had their Texas-style Chili and really enjoyed it. It had a good meat-to-bean ratio, but you could hardly taste the beans.

There really is something for everyone at Ruby Owl. Their menu clearly marks if an item is vegetarian-friendly or gluten-free. Everything there is priced reasonably, and they do a good job with portioning their food without it being ridiculous. While I haven’t dined in the restaurant yet, they did a good job with social distancing and spacing out the tables for customers that do opt to dine-in. I can’t wait for the day when I feel comfortable eating in a restaurant again so I can experience Ruby Owl at the restaurant itself.
