Jenn Kalchik
My name is Jenn! I’m a digital marketer and lifestyle blogger that recently moved to the Fox Valley area. I can’t wait to learn more about Fox Valley by enjoying the local restaurants. In my spare time, I love to read, watch theatre, play volleyball and shop at thrift stores. I currently live in Oshkosh with my boyfriend and our two cats: Daisy & Duke.
Where are you from?
I was born in Northport, Michigan. I previously lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Crystal Lake, Illinois and just moved to Oshkosh a few months ago.
Why Food Blogging?
I grew up around food. My parents are 4th generation cherry and apple farmers in Michigan. I worked on their farm for two years during the summer, but realized pretty quickly that farm life was not for me. I’ve had several jobs related to food: line cook for a pizzeria, barista for a coffee cart at a hospital, hostess for a pub, and bar staff for the Woodstock Opera House [in Illinois]. Now, I work as a digital marketer for a training company for my 9-5 job and also run my own lifestyle blog.
Where I grew up, almost all of the restaurants were locally owned; franchises did not want to open a location in our area because it’s mostly a seasonal economy. Because of this, I’m a big fan of supporting local restaurants. Since moving to Wisconsin a few months ago, my boyfriend and I have been trying to learn more about the area, and what better way than through the local restaurants!
Food is something that can bring people together. Everyone has different tastes and preferences, but my goal for finding a good restaurant is that they have options for everyone. I’m also excited about how restaurants have adapted to social distancing by adding more options for takeout and delivery, when that might not have been possible a few years ago.
What are some of your favorite restaurants?
Dockside Tavern, Zaroni’s, Ground Round, New Moon Cafe, Manila Resto, and Two Brothers Restaurant.
